Alzheimer’s is a disease not fully understood by doctors. Obvious risk factors include age and family history, but research shows that staying physically, mentally, and socially active may reduce the risk of developing the disease. Even so, when memory loss begins to disrupt daily life, it’s time to seek help and memory care.

If you or a loved one is living with Alzheimer’s, dementia, or any other memory-related condition, you likely have concerns about finding the best possible care. You’re also likely seeking a living environment that supports exceptional memory care in Birmingham. According to the CDC, in 2014 as many as 5 million Americans were living with Alzheimer’s disease. This number is projected to nearly triple by 2060 to nearly 14 million people.

Alzheimer’s Treatment Methods

When it comes to treating Alzheimer’s, it’s all about medical management to improve quality of life. There is no cure for Alzheimer’s disease. That said, treatment is often tailored to assist with maintaining mental function, managing behavioral symptoms as needed, and working to slow or delay the symptoms of the disease.

Memory Care at Regency

Our Pathways Memory Care curriculum is designed to provide intentional care to those dealing with the effects of Alzheimer’s and dementia. The program works to minimize any discomfort and pain associated with memory loss, and to help create more experiences of kindness, laughter, and happiness. Our memory caregivers work to get to know the residents– learning about their families, favorite things, personal items and mementos that have special meaning for them, and also seek to help create a feeling of familiarity, comfort, and home. We truly deeply in the power of consistency, kindness, and reassurance to make a difference for those with memory loss.
