Senior Woman on a Shopping SpreeWhen many think of senior discounts they think of organizations like AARP that offer membership discounts on things like car insurance or hotels. However you don’t have to join an organization when so many businesses offer specials for anyone over a certain age.

Local businesses offer plenty of opportunities to get out and have fun without spending al ot of money. Eagle Point public golf course has special pricing for those 55 and older. The Birmingham Zoo has special membership rates for anyone 65 or older, as well as special Grandparent package pricing for up to 10 grandchildren, with options to expand up to 20 grandchildren. The Civil Rights Institute also provides a Senior (age 55+) membership option.

Many national chains and franchises also offer great deals. For those who love to shop, Kohl’s gives anyone 60 or over 15% off on certain days, and at Ross anyone over 55 gets 10% on certain days. Your local Shoney’s, Subway, TCBY, and Ruby Tuesdays are just a few of the restaurants that offer a small discount, usually about 10% or a free drink or coffee.

Be sure to ask anywhere you go if they offer a senior discount. You’ll be pleasantly surprised just how many businesses are eager to honor seniors, and at the positive effect on your wallet. The great thing about retirement is the time to enjoy life, so get in as much enjoyment as possible without breaking the bank!
